Philosophy and Faith

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

2 Timothy 1:7

As a Christian, I believe that God made women’s bodies uniquely and perfectly for the task of childbirth. Birth matters to God! It’s mentioned many times in Scripture, and birth is an important part of how God sent His Son to walk among us and die for our sin.

Having the honor of watching babies enter the world has strengthened my faith and given me a better understanding of the phrase “born again”. The moment a baby is born is much like the moment a person trusts Christ; it’s an exciting moment, one that required much work, and highly celebrated by those who witnessed the event! A new creation. Breathing differently, seeing light for the first time. I could go on and on.

My faith informs and strengthens my practice.

During prenatal sessions, will discuss how labor and birth works, how God uniquely designed your body and your baby to work together during labor, and how you can have a faith-filled birth. I talk freely about God’s perfect design for the human body during our prenatal sessions. I always agree when a client asks me to pray for her during labor. I believe my faith in Christ is the reason I am able to offer a peaceful presence during preparation and labor for my clients.

My faith allows me to serve women of different backgrounds.

My faith means I regard all people as image-bearers of God, even if we have differing views. I do not exclusively take Christian clients. I am happy to serve clients of different religious or philosophical backgrounds and will always respect any cultural or religious differences we may have. I see childbirth as a way to celebrate God’s design for humanity, not an opportunity to “push my religion” on anyone.

My faith informs what I believe about the human body.

Reproduction of human life is uniquely feminine and should be treated with much respect. I believe birth is the most womanly thing any woman could do. Out of respect for the female body and the God who created it, I speak about pregnancy, labor, and birth with the understanding that they exclusively belong to women.
